Gnégnéri Yaya Touré was born on May 13, 1983, in Ivory Coast. His journey began at ASEC Mimosas, the Ivorian club where he made his debut at just 18 years old. The performances were sharp enough to catch European eyes.

Touré spent his early career moving between clubs. He played for Beveren, Metalurh Donetsk, Olympiacos and Monaco. Each stop built his reputation as a box-to-box midfielder with rare technical ability and power.

Barcelona came calling in 2007. Over 100 matches later, Touré had won a historic six trophies in 2009 alone. He played centre-back in the Champions League final that year, proving his versatility across the pitch.

In 2010, Touré joined Manchester City. The Premier League had never seen a midfielder quite like him. His goal in the 2011 FA Cup final, followed by his league title-winning performances, made him essential to City's revival.

Touré earned 100 caps for Ivory Coast between 2004 and 2015. He represented his nation at three FIFA World Cup tournaments—2006, 2010 and 2014. He also competed in six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments across 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015.

The awards piled up. Touré was voted African Footballer of the Year in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Few players have dominated continental voting like that. His consistency across four consecutive years marked him as one of Africa's greatest footballers ever.

Today, Touré works as a football coach. He currently serves as an assistant coach for the Saudi Arabia national team. His playing career shaped African football. Now he shapes the next generation through coaching.
