About Wale Akinboboye
La Campagne Tropana Beach Resort was still drawing crowds when Wale Akinboboye dreamed of something bigger. He had envisioned Africa's future in hospitality and culture before the continent caught up.
Wanle Akinboboye was born on August 16, 1958. He would go on to create the world's first African-themed beach, forest and river resort—La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort—a landmark that reshaped Nigeria's tourism landscape.
The resort became more than a destination. It proved that African culture could be packaged, celebrated and monetized on a global stage. Visitors arrived seeking authentic experiences and left as ambassadors for Nigerian heritage.
Success in Lagos led him beyond borders. Akinboboye commissioned resorts in Grand-Bassam, Côte d'Ivoire, and Wolyta Soddo in Ethiopia. He then brought the model home again with a resort in Koton-Karfe, Kogi State. Each location carried his signature: African themes, cultural immersion, natural beauty.
His influence expanded into government advisory work. He became chief tourism adviser and consultant to the Ooni of Ile-Ife, guiding one of Nigeria's most important traditional institutions. State governments across Nigeria sought his expertise to develop their culture and tourism sectors.
Akinboboye created and produced the Mare Festival for Ondo State government. The festival became a vehicle for celebrating regional culture and attracting visitors.
His credentials grew continental in scope. He now serves as an Advisor to the African Union Economic Cultural and Social Council in Nigeria (AUECOSSOC). The Conference of World Mayors appointed him as Tourism Ambassador, recognizing his work in positioning African cities on the global tourism map.
From a resort owner to a culture architect, Akinboboye had redefined what Nigerian tourism could be. His vision transformed beaches and forests into classrooms where the world learned Africa's story.
