Vivica Anjanetta Fox was born on July 30, 1964. She started her entertainment journey on Soul Train in 1982, dancing and performing for American television audiences. By the late 1980s, she had landed roles on the daytime soap operas Days of Our Lives and Generations, building steady experience in front of the camera.
Her breakthrough came in 1996 with two massive films released the same year. Roland Emmerich's Independence Day made her a star overnight. F. Gary Gray's Set It Off followed and cemented her status as a leading actress in Hollywood.
The late 1990s saw Fox starring in back-to-back films. Booty Call arrived in 1997, followed by Soul Food that same year. Why Do Fools Fall in Love came in 1998. She also landed a leading role in the Fox sitcom Getting Personal in 1998, showing her range beyond film.
Fox proved she could handle dramatic roles too. In 2003, she played Vernita Green in Kill Bill, a role that demonstrated her ability to work with acclaimed directors. She co-starred in and produced the Lifetime crime drama series Missing from 2003 to 2006, earning an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her work.
Beyond acting, Fox became a producer and director. She starred in over 25 Lifetime films and played Candace Mason in the Fox musical drama series Empire. Her producing credits extended to projects she did not appear in, expanding her influence behind the camera.
In 2023, Fox made her directorial debut with First Lady of BMF: The Tonesa Welch Story, a biographical crime film about the Black Mafia Family's prominent figure. The film showcased her evolution from actress to filmmaker with significant creative vision.
