About Victor Osimhen
Twenty-six goals in a single Serie A season. That was Victor Osimhen's answer when Napoli needed a striker to end 33 years without a title.
Victor James Osimhen was born on December 29, 1998, in Nigeria. He grew up in a nation obsessed with football, and he would become one of its greatest exports.
His senior career began in Germany at VfL Wolfsburg in 2017. After a season and a half, he moved to Belgian side Charleroi on loan in 2018–19, where he continued developing his craft. The loan spell was brief but essential.
Lille came calling in Ligue 1. Osimhen scored eighteen goals in his sole season with the French club, announcing himself as a striker of genuine quality. Europe was taking notice.
In 2020, Napoli paid €80 million for the Nigerian forward. The price tag was heavy, but Osimhen repaid it with interest. By the 2021–22 season, he had won the Serie A Best Young Player award. The following year proved even better. He finished as the league's top scorer with 26 goals, a record-high for any African player in Serie A history. Napoli won their first Serie A title in 33 years. For his efforts, he won the league's Best Striker award and was named Serie A Footballer of the Year.
His youth career had already shown glimpses of this trajectory. At the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, Osimhen won the Golden Boot award as Nigeria claimed the tournament. He made his senior international debut in June 2017 and became the vice-captain of the national team.
Osimhen transferred to Turkish side Galatasaray on loan ahead of the 2024–25 season. He finished as the league's top scorer and won a domestic double with the club. His explosive pace, physical strength, aerial ability, and clinical finishing have made him one of the world's best strikers.
At twenty-five years old, Osimhen continues to write his story. From Wolfsburg to Naples to Istanbul, the Nigerian forward has proven himself at every stop.
