The 2015 Akwa Ibom gubernatorial election brought Udom Gabriel Emmanuel into the spotlight. He ran on the Peoples Democratic Party platform and won. For eight years, he would serve as governor of Nigeria's oil-rich southern state.

Udom was born on July 11, 1966. Before politics claimed him, he trained as an accountant. His background in numbers and finance would shape his approach to governance.

He took office in 2015 with big ambitions for Akwa Ibom State. The state, home to Nigeria's oil wealth, needed infrastructure development and economic diversification. Udom focused on attracting investments and creating jobs beyond the petroleum sector.

By 2023, his tenure as governor came to an end. Two terms were enough under Nigeria's constitutional framework. His administration handed over to a successor.
