About Toju Foyeh
"Ore mi" was still resonating across Lagos when Toby Foyeh released Lagos Ilu Eko, cementing himself as a sonic bridge between continents.
Tokunbo Olowofoyeku was born in London, England, to Nigerian parents. He grew up between two worlds—the grey skies of Britain and the vibrant pulse of home. Music found him early, though he was essentially self-taught in the beginning.
His formal training came later at Berklee College of Music and Howard University, where he also earned a degree in Film Directing. The blend of music and cinema would shape his artistic vision. He settled in the Washington, D.C. area, building his career from American soil while keeping his roots firmly planted in Nigeria.
His debut album Here I Come produced the singles "Ore mi" and "I'm on Fire". The tracks announced his arrival—a fresh voice mixing traditional Nigerian sounds with contemporary sensibilities. By the late 1990s, Jalolo arrived, bringing the standout track "Rain Dance" with it.
In 2006, Lagos Ilu Eko was released across the US, Canada, and Europe. The album represented his most ambitious work yet, a love letter to the city that shaped his family's destiny. Foyeh had performed extensively on Nigerian Television for years, and his music videos became fixtures in living rooms across the nation.
With his band Orchestra Africa, he expanded his reach across continents. They performed in the United Kingdom, Europe, United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Japan and throughout Africa. The group became ambassadors of a particular sound—rooted in Lagos, refined in America, global in ambition.
In 2019, Pirates of Africa arrived. African Festival followed in September 2021. Both albums maintained his commitment to blending African heritage with contemporary production.
Foyeh's uncle is Kwame Jackson, runner-up in NBC's 2004 The Apprentice. The family has always understood the power of reaching beyond borders. A future album, The Land of Spirits, is scheduled for release in 2025, promising another chapter in his ongoing journey between continents.
