Chief Richard Evans Mofe-Damijo was born on July 6, 1961. He would become known to millions simply as RMD. From his early days, he moved between worlds—journalism, law, and the arts—refusing to pick just one.

His breakthrough came through acting. In 2005, RMD won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. The recognition came at a time when Nigerian cinema was expanding beyond the home video market onto continental stages.

Beyond the silver screen, he built a career as a writer and producer. RMD shaped stories from behind the camera as much as he performed them in front of it. His work spanned decades, adapting to Nigeria's evolving entertainment landscape.

In 2009, RMD stepped into public service. He became Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State, a position he held until 2015. The role allowed him to influence cultural policy and tourism development in his home state.

His legal training informed much of his later work. Having studied law, RMD brought intellectual rigor to both his creative projects and administrative duties. This background set him apart from many of his contemporaries in the entertainment industry.

In 2024, RMD received the Industry Merit Awards at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards. The honour came alongside veteran actress Iya Rainbow, cementing his status as a pillar of Nigerian entertainment.

Chief Richard Mofe-Damijo remains a multifaceted figure in Nigerian culture. Actor, writer, producer, lawyer, and former journalist—he embodied the idea that one career need not define an entire life.
