Obi Emelonye was born on March 24, 1967. He grew up in Nigeria and developed a passion for telling stories through film that mattered, that cut deep.

Before Last Flight to Abuja made his name, he directed The Mirror Boy in 2011. That film showed audiences he had range and vision. Then came Onye Ozi in 2013, further cementing his reputation as a serious filmmaker.

For over two decades, Emelonye built a body of work that earned respect across continents. His films played in festivals. Critics took notice. Other directors watched what he was doing.

In 2020, the world shut down. Coronavirus halted film production everywhere. But Emelonye refused to wait. He became the first film director to make a complete movie via Zoom, working remotely with cast members split between London and Lagos. The film was Heart 2 Heart. Major media outlets worldwide praised it. What could have been impossible became his most innovative project yet.

December 2022 brought formal recognition. The British Urban Film Festival presented Emelonye with an honorary award at a ceremony in London. Producer and director Don Omope presented it to him personally. The award honored his 20+ years of outstanding contribution to cinema.
