# Muri Ajayi: The Journalist Who Brought Innovation to Gaza
Yaser Murtaja was a Palestinian video journalist and photographer whose work changed how the world saw the Gaza Strip. Born between 1987 and 1988, he grew up in a territory where telling stories came with extraordinary risk.
Murtaja co-founded Ain Media Production Company, a venture that would bring international attention to Palestinian narratives. The company produced video content for several major international media outlets. This was groundbreaking work in a region where resources were scarce.
He became known for pioneering the use of drone cameras in Gaza. At the time, this technology was virtually unheard of in the territory. Gaza had no airport, which made bringing in equipment dangerous and difficult. Murtaja managed it anyway.
His camera work documented life under occupation with a directness that conventional journalism could not capture. Through Ain Media, he gave voice to stories that might otherwise have gone untold. His videos reached newsrooms across the globe.
On April 6, 2018, Murtaja was killed during the Gaza border protests. According to the Palestinian health ministry, Israeli security forces were responsible for his death. He was 30 years old.
His legacy lives in the footage he left behind. Murtaja showed that innovation and courage could exist in the most difficult circumstances. He proved that a single person with a camera and determination could shift how the world sees a place.
The work of Ain Media Production Company continues to influence documentary filmmaking in the Middle East. Journalists cite Murtaja's methods and his willingness to take risks. His story reminds the world what happens when reporters refuse to look away.
