About Lolo Zouai
PLAYGIRL was still climbing the charts when Lolo Zouaï announced her independence from a major record label.
Laureen Rebeha Zouaï was born on March 5, 1995, in Paris, France. Her mother is French and her father is Algerian. When she was just three months old, her family relocated to San Francisco, California, where she would grow up and find her voice.
She graduated from Lowell High School in 2013. By her early twenties, Zouaï was already making waves in the music industry. Her songwriting caught the attention of major artists and producers across the country.
In 2019, she released her debut album High Highs to Low Lows. Pitchfork gave the project a 7.5 out of 10 rating. That same year, The Guardian named her "one to watch" in April. She was building momentum quietly but steadily.
Behind the scenes, Zouaï was co-writing tracks for other artists. She worked on "Still Down" for H.E.R.'s self-titled album, which won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. This collaboration proved her worth as both a singer and songwriter.
In 2022, she completed the opening slot on the North American leg of Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia Tour. That October, she released her sophomore album PLAYGIRL. The project marked a new chapter in her artistic journey. Forbes took notice and included her in their 30 under 30 2023 list for musicians in November 2022.
By 2023, Zouaï had made a bold move. She ended her contract with RCA Records and struck out as an independent artist. She launched her own record label, Keep it on the Lolo, and signed with Because Music. At the 2023 Billboard Women In Music event, she revealed this shift publicly.
Today, Lolo Zouaï controls her own destiny. She writes her own music, owns her masters, and builds her legacy on her own terms. The French-American singer has proven that independence and creativity can walk hand in hand.
