# Pastor Leke Adeboye: The Man Behind Africa's Largest Congregation

Every Sunday, over a million worshippers gather at the Redemption Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. That weekly miracle belongs to one man: Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, widely known as Leke Adeboye or simply "Pa" by devoted followers.

Adeboye was born in Ifewara, Osun State, to a humble family. He studied at the University of Lagos in the 1960s and later earned a master's degree from the University of Lagos. A career in mathematics education seemed his destined path before a spiritual calling changed everything.

In 1981, he became the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) at just 39 years old. The church had only a handful of congregants. He inherited a fledgling ministry that met in cramped prayer rooms across Lagos.

Through decades of tireless preaching and strategic expansion, Adeboye transformed RCCG into a global powerhouse. The church now operates in over 196 countries. The Redemption Camp itself sprawls across 42 acres and hosts some of the largest prayer gatherings in Africa.

His monthly Holy Ghost Night services became legendary. Thousands camp out overnight for these events, seeking miracles and spiritual renewal. The services have been broadcast live across African television networks for years.

Adeboye published several books including "Redeemed," an autobiography that details his journey from mathematics teacher to one of Africa's most influential religious leaders. His preaching style is direct and practical, focused on biblical application to daily life.

By 2022, he stepped back from day-to-day leadership, handing over duties to his successor. But his influence remained unshakeable. The Redeemed Christian Church of God under his watch became Nigeria's largest Pentecostal denomination and one of Africa's most organized religious movements.

Pastor Adeboye married Folu Adeboye, his partner in ministry for over five decades. They raised children who would themselves become pastors and leaders within the church structure. His legacy rests not in chart-topping performances or viral moments, but in the quiet transformation of millions of lives through faith.
