Most Nigerians know Sead Kolašinac as the defender who nearly joined a Premier League giant. But few understand how a German-born talent became a fixture for Bosnia and Herzegovina's national team.

Kolašinac was born on June 20, 1993, in Germany. His family background shaped a footballer who would eventually represent a nation thousands of kilometres away. He chose Bosnia and Herzegovina over the country of his birth.

His career began at Schalke 04, where he played in the reserve team before breaking into professional football. The German club became his launchpad. By 2017, Arsenal came calling. The Gunners signed him and then loaned him back to Schalke 04 in 2021, a move that seemed to suggest a reset was needed.

Kolašinac made his senior international debut for Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2013. This was a pivotal moment. He would go on to earn over 60 caps for the nation, becoming one of their most reliable defenders.

In 2014, he represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at their first major championship, the FIFA World Cup. Playing alongside established stars, Kolašinac proved he belonged on the world stage. The experience matured him as a player and as an international competitor.

After his time at Arsenal, Kolašinac moved to Marseille in 2022. A year later, he signed with Serie A club Atalanta. The Italian side offered him a platform to continue his career at the highest level of European football.
