"Classic Man" was still climbing the charts when Jidenna walked into the studio to cement his place in hip-hop.

Jidenna Theodore Mobisson was born on May 4, 1985. The American rapper, singer and songwriter would go on to become one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music. His journey to stardom began when he signed with Janelle Monáe's Wondaland Arts Society, an imprint of Epic Records.

In 2015, Jidenna released his debut single "Classic Man," featuring Roman GianArthur or Kendrick Lamar depending on the version. The track peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 and received double platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. It was the kind of breakthrough moment that changes careers overnight.

The momentum continued with "Yoga," a collaboration with Janelle Monáe released that same year. Both singles preceded the release of Wondaland's collective project, The Eephus, in 2015. The project showcased Jidenna's versatility and creative range alongside other talented artists under the label.

"Classic Man" earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap/Sung Performance. At the 2015 Soul Train Music Awards, Jidenna won in four categories, cementing his status as a rising star. The recognition came early but was well-deserved.

His debut studio album, The Chief, arrived in 2017. The project peaked at number 38 on the Billboard 200 and demonstrated his ability to sustain success beyond singles. Jidenna had proven he could carry a full-length project with depth and nuance.

In 2019, Jidenna released his second album, 85 to Africa. The project explored afro fusion, blending African rhythms with contemporary hip-hop and R&B sensibilities. The album marked an evolution in his sound and showed his growing interest in his roots.

From a breakout single to Grammy nominations and Soul Train accolades, Jidenna built a career on authenticity and musical excellence. His work continues to resonate with audiences who appreciate substance over trends.
