The Memphis Grizzlies were still finding their rhythm in the Western Conference when Hamed Haddadi stepped onto the court in 2008. No Iranian had ever played in the NBA before. That changed when Haddadi arrived as the league's first player from the Islamic Republic.

Hamed Ehdadi Haddadi was born on May 19, 1985, in Iran. Standing 7 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 254 pounds, he was built for basketball from the ground up. His size and skill at the center position made him a rare prospect in Middle Eastern basketball.

The Memphis Grizzlies took a chance on the young Iranian center. Playing from 2008 onwards, Haddadi became a groundbreaker. He showed the world that talent could emerge from anywhere, even from a nation with limited NBA history.

For five years, Haddadi wore the Grizzlies jersey with pride. He developed as a professional and learned the pace and intensity of American basketball. His presence opened doors for future Iranian players to dream of the NBA stage.

In 2013, the Phoenix Suns signed him. But his time in the league was winding down. After his stint with the Suns, he made the decision to return home to Iran.

Back in Iran, Haddadi played in the Iranian Basketball Super League. He also took his talents to China, continuing his career overseas. Basketball remained his passion wherever he played.

Today, Haddadi plays for Esteghlal BC in the Iranian Basketball Super League. His legacy is clear. He was the first Iranian to break through to the NBA, paving the way for others to follow.
