When Muhammadu Buhari needed someone to speak for him during his presidency, the choice was clear: Garba Shehu. The Nigerian journalist had already proven himself a master of navigating the corridors of power and the pressures of public communication.

Mallam Garba Shehu was born on December 12, 1959. He built his career on the foundations of journalism—reporting, editing, and telling Nigeria's stories to Nigerians. His work in the newsroom earned him respect across the industry.

His prominence in journalism circles grew steadily. In 2008, he became president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, the apex body for newspaper editors in Nigeria. This position placed him at the heart of conversations about press freedom and editorial standards in the country.
