When Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps dropped in 2019, Fireboy DML had already begun his ascent in Nigerian music.
Adedamola Oyinlola Adefolahan was born on February 5, 1996. The singer and songwriter would later become known to millions simply as Fireboy DML. His talent caught the attention of industry heavyweights early on.
In 2018, he signed a record deal with YBNL Nation, the label founded by rapper Olamide. This partnership proved pivotal. It gave Fireboy the platform and resources to fully realize his artistic vision.
His debut studio album, Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps, arrived in 2019 to widespread acclaim. The project showcased his range as both a vocalist and songwriter. Tracks resonated across Nigeria and beyond the continent.
Recognition came swiftly. At the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, Fireboy won Listener's Choice and earned a nomination for Song of the Year for "Jealous." The song became a fan favourite and proved his ability to craft emotionally resonant records.
By his third studio album, Playboy, Fireboy had achieved international charting success. The project entered the Billboard 200 at number 123, marking a milestone for the Nigerian artist. He had crossed from continental success into global recognition.
In 2024, Fireboy released his album Adedamola, continuing to build on his growing discography. The project demonstrated his evolution as an artist. Each release has shown deeper songwriting and sonic maturity.
From his early days under YBNL Nation to international chart positions, Fireboy DML's trajectory reflects dedication to craft. His journey from 2018 onwards has been marked by consistent growth and artistic integrity.
