Femi Otedola built an empire on vision and timing. In the 1980s, when Nigeria's economy was still finding its footing, he spotted opportunity in commodities and made his first fortune there.

By the early 2000s, Otedola had already proven himself as a shrewd investor. He pivoted toward energy, selling his commodity stakes to chase a bigger prize. Forte Oil became his flagship, and he rose to become the company's chairman.

But Otedola was not content to simply hold what he had built. In 2015, he made a bold move, stepping back from Forte Oil to focus on power generation. He founded Geregu Power and became its executive chairman, owning more than 95% of the company's shares.

Geregu Power changed the game for Nigerian energy. The company focused on reliable power generation at a time when Nigeria desperately needed it. His stake in the business made him one of the country's most influential energy investors.

By 2022, Otedola began bringing in institutional partners. He sold down significant portions of Geregu to the Nigerian government, the Afrexim Fund for Export Development in Africa, and the State Grid Corporation of China. The move strengthened the company while spreading wealth across global investors.

His business interests span wider than just energy. Otedola founded Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd and ventured into shipping, real estate, and finance. He holds shares in Zenith Bank and FBN Holdings, cementing his place in Nigeria's financial landscape.

Real estate became another canvas for his ambitions. He owns properties across Lagos, Dubai, London, and Monaco. These holdings reflect a businessman thinking beyond borders.

Philanthropy runs parallel to his business achievements. Otedola has committed resources to education, healthcare, and community development across Nigeria. At 62, he continues to shape industries and inspire the next generation of Nigerian entrepreneurs who understand that building wealth means building institutions that outlast you.
