Scar's voice. Most Nigerians know Chiwetel Ejiofor as the voice of the fearsome lion in The Lion King (2019). That single role introduced him to millions across Lagos, Abuja, and beyond.

Chiwetel Umeadi Ejiofor was born on July 10, 1977, in London. His talent emerged early and shone bright from the start. At nineteen, while still three months into his studies at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Steven Spielberg cast him in Amistad (1997) as James Covey.

The young actor trained at the National Youth Theatre in 1995 before attending the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. His early break with Spielberg set the tone for what would become a remarkable career. He moved steadily from supporting roles to leading ones.

In 2008, Ejiofor won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor for his performance in Othello on stage. The recognition validated his craft and opened doors across the industry. His theatre work matched his growing film presence.

Then came 12 Years a Slave in 2013. Ejiofor played Solomon Northup and delivered a performance that earned him a BAFTA Award for Best Actor. He also received an Academy Award nomination for the role. The film changed everything for him internationally.

His film roles expanded rapidly after that. He appeared in The Martian (2015) alongside Matt Damon. He joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Karl Mordo in Doctor Strange (2016) and returned in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). Other major films included Children of Men (2006), Salt (2010), and Love Actually (2003).

The British government recognized his contributions to the arts. In 2008, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). Seven years later, in 2015, he was advanced to Commander (CBE) for his services to the arts.

Today, Chiwetel Ejiofor stands as one of Britain's finest actors. His work spans theatre, film, and voice acting. Whether audiences know him as Scar or as Solomon Northup, his impact remains undeniable.
