Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi was born on May 27, 1965. He would eventually become one of Nigeria's most prominent politicians, rising through the ranks in Rivers State politics.

His first major position came in 1999 when he became Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. He held this role for eight years, building a reputation as a skilled political operator. By 2007, Amaechi had positioned himself for higher office.

The Rivers State governorship brought him national prominence. From 2007 to 2015, Amaechi led the oil-rich state through turbulent times. His administration focused on infrastructure and economic development projects.

In 2015, President Buhari appointed Amaechi as Minister of Transportation. The role gave him a federal platform and national visibility. For seven years, he championed transport infrastructure across Nigeria.

On April 9, 2022, Amaechi announced his presidential ambitions. He contested the APC presidential primaries in June that year. Though he polled a strong second position with 316 delegate votes, Bola Tinubu's 1,271 votes secured him the nomination and eventual presidency.

The presidential race loss marked a turning point. Amaechi subsequently moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signalling a shift in his political alignment. His decision reflected the fluid nature of Nigerian politics.

From Speaker to Governor to Minister and finally presidential contender, Amaechi's journey spanned over two decades.
