Chief Ojora was born in 1932, a time when Nigeria's business landscape was still colonial. His career began in an unexpected place—the BBC newsroom in the early 1950s, where he worked as a journalist. This background in communication would shape how he later managed stakeholder relations and corporate messaging.

In 1962, he made the leap into corporate Nigeria. Ojora joined United Africa Company (UAC) as an executive. The move marked his transition from media into the world of commerce and industry.

The 1970s became his transformative decade. Ojora began investing in multiple foreign firms operating within Nigeria's borders. His portfolio diversified beyond oil into other strategic sectors. This shrewd positioning made him one of Nigeria's most influential business minds during the oil boom.

When he took the helm at AGIP in 1971, the company was navigating Nigeria's post-civil war recovery. Under his leadership, AGIP Nigeria expanded its operations and deepened its footprint in the country's petroleum sector. The firm became known for its operational efficiency and strategic partnerships.

For over thirty years, Ojora held steady at AGIP's helm. His tenure lasted until 2002, when Unipetrol acquired the company. By then, he had already cemented his legacy as a visionary who understood both journalism and business.

Chief Adekunle Ojora died on January 28, 2026, at the age of 94. His career spanned from Nigeria's independence struggles through decades of economic transformation. From the BBC microphone to the boardroom table, he shaped the institutions that built modern Nigeria.
