When "Sade" dropped in 2015, Adekunle Gold became impossible to ignore.

Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko was born on January 28, 1987. The Nigerian singer and songwriter would go on to reshape the sound of modern highlife music. His breakthrough came with a cover that caught the world's attention.

"Sade" was a highlife reimagining of One Direction's "Story of My Life". The single exploded across Nigeria and beyond, introducing millions to Adekunle Gold's smooth, vintage-influenced approach to pop music. It was the song that changed everything.

That same year, he signed with YBNL Nation and released his debut studio album Gold. The album debuted at number 7 on the Billboard World Albums chart, a remarkable achievement for a new artist. Three singles preceded it: "Sade", "Orente" and "Pick Up". Each showcased his distinctive blend of traditional highlife and contemporary production.

Before signing to YBNL, Adekunle Gold had worked behind the scenes. He designed the label's official logo and completed graphic design work for artists like Lil Kesh, Viktoh and Olamide. His eye for detail translated seamlessly into his music.

The years that followed saw consistent output and evolution. He continued releasing albums that built on the foundation Gold had established. His sound remained rooted in highlife traditions while moving forward.

In 2023, he released Tequila Ever After, his fifth studio album and first under Def Jam. The deal marked a significant moment in his career, bringing his music to a global audience through one of the industry's biggest labels.

Most recently, Adekunle Gold released Fuji on October 3, 2025. The 15-track album carries a meaningful title—an acronym for Finding Uncharted Journeys Inside. It represents another chapter in the career of an artist who turned a highlife cover into a movement, and a logo design into a legacy in music.
