About 2Baba
When Face 2 Face dropped in 2004, Nigerian music shifted on its axis.
Innocent Ujah Idibia was born on September 18, 1975. He would later become known to millions as 2Baba, a name that defined an era of Nigerian pop music. Before that, he performed as 2Face Idibia.
His debut album Face 2 Face announced him as more than just another singer. It proved he was a songwriter and producer who understood how to build songs from the ground up. The album changed what Nigerian music could sound like on the continental stage.
In 2005, 2Baba won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act. This was recognition from beyond Nigeria's borders. It showed that his music had crossed oceans and reached ears across continents.
"African Queen" became his signature. In 2025, Billboard ranked it No. 1 on their list of the best Afrobeats songs of all time. A single song. Two decades later. Still standing above the rest.
Beyond the charts, 2Baba channelled his influence into social causes. In 2019, he collaborated with Cobhams Asuquo and Timi Dakolo to release a song raising awareness for children's rights. He understood that a platform meant responsibility.
He received the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) honour. This recognition placed him among Nigeria's most celebrated citizens.
Historians of Nigerian music regard 2Baba as one of the greatest Afrobeats artists of all time. His contributions to pop music in the 2000s shaped what came after. Younger artists learned from his blueprint. Producers studied his sound. Songwriters listened closely to his lyrics.
2Baba proved that staying power in music required more than one hit. It required growth, evolution and the courage to experiment. From Face 2 Face to "African Queen" to his work in philanthropy, he built a legacy that stretched across decades. His influence remains.
