Finding your own style means evolving with it over time as tastes are constantly changing. Whether you’re at step one of developing your own sense of style or just in need of a refresh, there are useful tips for making sure your wardrobe is working for you.

Reconsidering trends should be a no-brainer, but it’s important to consider what you personally like versus what your favourite celebrities or influencers are wearing. You can always appreciate a trend from afar without forcing it into your own wardrobe or look. You don’t have to be X,Y,Z to fit into a specific box in order to incorporate something into your wardrobe, and it doesn’t have to be a certain season or occasion to wear the items you love. Basically, forgetting the rules is the key to unlocking a style profile that feels off-limits but really isn’t. Developing a personal style is finding items you know you could rely on every day.

Wearing expensive clothing doesn’t necessarily make you stylish if it doesn’t fit or makes you confident or comfortable. Not just anyone can solve a fashion lover’s style perplexities, but this is Nigerian Oscar Awards 2016’s Most Creative Entrepreneur, Olumide Oyewunmi’s niche. The Creative Director of fashion and lifestyle brand, Midetush Bespoke, who has developed a reputation for perfectly fitting sartorial ready to wear and custom-made pieces with creativity, formulates from each’s client’s uniqueness.

Born in the Ilupeju area of Lagos, he spent most of his life in the busiest city of Nigeria. Attended the Federal University of Technology, Akure and earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in Meteorology and Climate Sciences. His undying passion for fashion and creativity kickstarted in his university days when he became the first individual brand to host the University’s Fashion Awards in 2016 having been nominated for Emerging Fashion Brand of the Year – Lagos Fashion Awards in 2015.

He has pushed the brand showcasing at the Lagos Fashion Exhibition (Runway On The Street) and Cupid Faces Runway Invasion in 2014, Street Fashion Nigeria Runway Project 2015, emerging as one of the Student Designers for Wema Banks’ Nigerian Student Fashion Design Week and held presentations and workshop at Ibadan Urban Fashion Week 2017, 2018 and 2021. Olumide was a collaborating designer at the Birmingham Fashion Week 2023 and volunteering at the Bellafricana’s 2023 Summer Pop Up Event in Oxford, London.

Over the years, his work has been featured in interviews, articles and reviews from prestigious publications such as Style Rave (International Media Company), BellaNaija Weddings, Spice TV, Rainbow Magazine, HipTV, StyleChat and other fashion and lifestyle blogs.

The brand, Midetush Bespoke over the years, has strived to intensify style proficiency towards creative innovation whilst providing top notch products and services to customers home and abroad. One of the services which the brand offers is building one’s wardrobe with basics and investment pieces – Wardrobe styling. Creating one’s style is so much easier with a strong wardrobe foundation. The basics e.g jeans, t-shirts and the investments e.g blazers, leather jackets. Both items should be tailored specifically for one’s body type to guarantee a perfect outlook.

The goal is to create personal style, rather than become slave to trends as fashion and style are two completely different things. The confusion often resulting in people thinking that style is superficial and materialistic because of the pressure to be trendy. At a fashion and style chat session organized by Tesslo Concepts, Olumide mentioned ‘’Personal style is all about creating an everyday look and identity that is curated to one’s personal taste and lifestyle. A personal sense of style is not influenced by fluctuating tides of fashion.’’
