Leaders, followers cautioned against breaking pledges

A renowned Islamic scholar and associate professor, Muhammad Sani Umar Rijiyar Lemo, has cautioned leaders and followers against failing to uphold their commitments, warning that the trend leads to moral decay, backwardness and lack of progress in society.

Speaking at the 9th session of the 2024 Ramadan Tafsir at the JIBWIS Central Mosque, Gwallaga in Bauchi State, Rijiyar Lemo stressed that breaking trust and promises goes against the teachings of Islam and results in divine disapproval.

He explained that these commitments are sacred agreements between individuals and their Creator regarding ethical conduct, and breaching them invites divine retribution upon society.

The cleric said, “These days whomever you entrust with either leadership position, money, property, office appointment, and secret, the prospect of keeping such trusts is very slim.”
