Cleric cautions media practitioners against propaganda

Alhaji Abdulfattah Abdulazeez, the lead missioner of Nasrul-Lahi-il Fathi Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) in Ekiti State, has urged media practitioners to adhere to professional rules.

Speaking during a Ramadan lecture organised by the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) in Ado-Ekiti, Alhaji Abdulazeez cautioned against bad intentions, pride, and propaganda in journalism.

During his lecture on the topic “Efficacy of Words and Pen towards Societal Growth/Menace,” the cleric stressed the need for truthfulness, sincerity, and balanced reporting to avoid negative impacts on individuals and society.

He urged media practitioners not to use their profession to denigrate human beings and reminded them of their responsibility to uphold ethical standards.

Alhaji Abdulazeez emphasised the respect and influence that media practitioners hold in society, urging them to guide against damaging reputations and spreading propaganda.

Dr Hammed Afolabi Bakare, the President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Ekiti State, commended the MMPN for organising the lecture and encouraged adherence to professional standards and ethics.

He also urged Muslims to use the Ramadan period to pray for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the nation’s economy.

AbdulMutolib Abdullah, the Chief Imam of Ansarul-Deen Central Mosque in Odotu Ado-Ekiti, called on Muslim media practitioners to distinguish themselves through honesty, responsible journalism, and credible information.

He emphasised the importance of standing for the truth and avoiding false news, propaganda, or character assassinations.
