Political leaders urged to be conscious of hereafter

Sheikh Kolawole Jumu’a, an Islamic scholar, has identified the lack of righteous leadership as a fundamental issue contributing to Nigeria’s challenges, including insecurity and economic difficulties.

He stated this after a Ramadan Tasfir lecture organised by the Islamic Welfare Foundation (IWF) in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Jumu’a said the country’s political leaders seemed not to be conscious of Allah and the day of judgement, which are essential aspects of righteous leadership.

He emphasised that belief in the afterlife serves as a moral and ethical guide for individuals in their personal lives, social interactions, political decisions, and economic activities.

Jumu’a noted that leaders who believe in accountability in the afterlife are more likely to prioritise the well-being of the country over personal interests.

He stressed the importance of leaders having faith in Allah, the day of judgement, and the concept of accountability to effectively govern a nation.

The scholar cautioned that Nigeria’s problems and insecurities will persist as long as leaders lack these fundamental beliefs.
