Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria, MMWG, has charged President Bola Tinubu, all the state governors, National Assembly members and ministers to reflect on the present economic situation of Nigerians and resolve to alleviate their sufferings beyond palliative distributions.

In a Ramadan message jointly signed by its National Coordinator, Ibrahim Abdullahi and the National Secretary, Dr Nasir Balogun, the group urged the leaders at all levels of government to renew their faith in God and govern with His absolute fear.

It called on the nation’s leadership at the federal, state and local government levels to reflect on the present worsening condition of the people socially and economically and change some of their policies so that the people could live under better conditions.

This, the MMWG said could be done by evolving strategies that would force down prices of food items, goods and useful materials, reduce the amount paid for fuel purchases, implement the new minimum wage being deliberated upon and evolve enhanced pension pay packages for the senior citizens to mention a few.

The group maintained that if the current hardship continues in the holy month of Ramadan, it would surely have a negative impact on the people.

According to MMWG, “this year’s Ramadan has come in the most trying period for citizens of Nigeria irrespective of religious background and affiliation.”

It also called for an aggressive posture on the part of federal and state governments to fight corruption, advocating the prosecution of all those indicted in the immediate past administration and current leadership too.

On insecurity, the group decried the upsurge in insecurity all over the Northern parts of the country especially in Kaduna, Borno and Sokoto States, warning on the likelihood of the illness spreading to other parts.

It enjoined President Tinubu to do the needful if the ugly trend continues by making the current Defence and Security Chiefs account for the hundreds of kidnapped students, women and children across the country.
