Worried by the disturbing rate of youth restiveness, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) who craved anonymity has on behalf of lawyers in Kaduna donated a 5-aside pitch to the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) for the benefit of its officers and men as well as the general public.

Speaking at the opening of the 5-aside football pitch constructed by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) at the police officers mess over the weekend, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Ali said lawyers, police and other security agencies are partners in the criminal justice system.

He said “Realising the fact that if we all act professionally, we are able to safeguard life and property as well as protect the dignity of human lives which will also lead to apprehending and prosecuting offenders who contravene the law because we are fighting the same menace.”

On his part, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kaduna state, Barrister Sule Shuaibu said the initiative is a conscious move to key into the agenda of the state governor on safety and security.

“We decided to collaborate with the police to create an enabling environment that will promote safety and security because sports is one of the avenues where unity of purpose is promoted.

“We all know how football unites people not just in Nigeria, but all over the world, so we wanted to create that consciousness of togetherness among the youth and remove that idea of criminality from their minds,” he said.

The Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Professor Emmanuel Gugong also disclosed that Kaduna State is developing a model to get the youth off the streets through sports.

The highlight of the event was a friendly football match between lawyers and Police officers on the newly commissioned pitch.
