They didn’t prepare for the downpour

1 week ago 19

It took quite some thinking for this writer to finally get the best way of putting out this message. This message is for the now but its publics are not ready for it. The message is for the immediate future but it can only be delivered in codes. The best way, therefore, to communicate it sans creating too much shock in the system is by what I call the past tense psychology.

You should try the strategy, yourself. When you have something heavy, very, very heavy, to say. When you know that saying it as it is will throw up untold disruptions. What to do is apply the past tense; as if what is about to happen already had.

Still, not everybody should read this. If you are one who tends to read too much into everything, simply stop reading at this point. If you are among those who always have to take stuff to strengthen their head or mind or both, you had better do so now before continuing. Something bad, something very, very, very bad, has happened.

A horrendous downpour took place, suddenly. Did you sense it? Were you prepared for it? If you weren’t and still aren’t, how do you patch things up before it’s too late; that is, if it isn’t already?

Let’s start with the one that most Nigerians think is the ultimate. You of all people lost power. Sssh, you didn’t see how that could happen but listen up, the builders and operators of RMS Titanic were said to have said that not even God could sink the water edifice. So, you are not alone neither are you the first nor would you be the last incredible Thomas.

Unfortunately, you could do nothing to salvage what had been activated. It happened suddenly. Like a flash. You recognised it as the flashback of a dream, being that you had been warned too many times; a warning you treated characteristically.

You should have braced up, my man; you should have braved it out, dear lady. The catastrophic tsunami (emphasis mine) was inescapable. Plus, just so you know, this being a natural payback, it had (and has) no second~chance~guarantee. Death is not alive.

That’s the tragedy of it all. Death is not alive, and won’t ever be. That’s why life is in such trouble. Death has nothing to fear, nothing to lose; which is the reason it goes to and fro, fearlessly looking for even the strongest of victims to devour.

Yes, it is what it is. In this realm, nobody and nothing can do death anything; in this realm, death is the end of the end. Death is the end of the very end. Death is the very end of the very end.

To give context, the foregoing is essentially about politicians. But, it is not about them only. Everybody now knows: politics is dumb in that, on one hand, it allows the good to pass as weak and the bad as strong. On the other, politics discolours the good as bad and encolours the bad as good.

Unfortunately, double unfortunately, politics no longer happens only in politics nor is it played only by politicians. Politics had since crept into and now walks on all fours in the home, in the church, in the mosque, in the office and in such other sacred grounds. Meaning that if most of us (apolitical elders, priests, imams, administrators et al) who taunt politicians took a break to look at the person in the mirror, we shall not like who we see. In this country, an alarming majority of politicians are six while an alarming majority of the rest of us are half a dozen: the difference between them and us is the same!

It is so tiring discussing politics in this country. So, let’s engage gear and move away even if that is tantamount to postponing the evil day. As alluded to a moment ago, the other downpour that loomed long was fatal. I hate, no, I abhor death the same way I do snakes which is the reason I hardly discuss them. I can therefore offer no details but owners and lovers of hale and hearty people of power and privilege, beware; pray!

Death has no life, nor can it resurrect on this realm. Death dealt someone no one expected a technical knockout. It happened next May. Read that again: ‘’it happened next May!’’

God forbid! Close that horrible chapter hurriedly and engage gear three with me. This one is about seasons. Listen attentively even if otherwise is one of your many failings.

One very cold morning, wet gave way to dry. This happened right in the middle of the natural tenure of the season of green. It left thinkers and others wondering whether darkness showing up at dawn is a guarantee that light will be present at dusk. If you ask me, who would I ask?

What happened thereafter was that those who all along thought they were deputy God, those who thought they had it all covered, started running helter-skelter. Alas, they found no help. Because, all the years they held the yam and the knife, they played politics with their help ministry. At the time, they conveniently forgot that life has never been magic; they conveniently forgot that you cannot not plant help but reap it!

We also saw the sudden evaporation of verifiable wealth. Group of companies, expansive estates and fleet of cars all melted, just like that. The richest, like play like play, became the poorest. Ditto the most powerful: they too became the new weakling.

Nobody should console themselves that these are old testament occurrences or, at worst, the lot of others, because indeed they are not. These are warnings (for the future and) for everybody; warnings that are cast indirectly for a particular reason. The forces of nature have come together to say enough is enough. The much-delayed moment of judgement has begun.

Nature is out to humble the proud, out to prove the wise are foolish and out to stupefy the trickster. Everybody is in danger. Therefore, rather than gloat that you are not the target, sit yourself down this instant and soul~search. Are you prepared for the downpour that cometh?

Father, please help your children to live right. Help us to prepare 25 hours every day for any downpour by carrying on like a people who know that nothing lasts forever. Teach us to treat others the same way you treat us. Above all, when we forget and tend to play God which is the way of the devil, please create situations to remind us early enough that we have over~overlapped.

God bless Nigeria!
