Aloy Ejimakor, lead counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has declared that the Biafra agitator will never be subjected to any trial that lacks a fair hearing.

He disclosed this after leading a legal team on a routine visit to Kanu at the Department of State

facility in Abuja.

Posting on X, Ejimakor wrote: “UPDATE: Myself & the #LegalTeam have concluded today’s visitation with Onyendu MAZI NNAMDI KANU.

“To cut long story short, #MNK will never be subjected to any trial that lacks the basic guarantee of fair hearing. That is the irreducible minimum and it’s non-negotiable. Yes.”

This is coming barely 24 hours after an Abuja Federal High Court denied the IPOB leader bail.

Justice Binta Nyako, however, ordered an accelerated hearing of the seven-count terrorism charge preferred against Kanu by the Federal Government.

Nyako had, in April 2022, struck out eight of the 15 counts in the charge. The remaining seven counts were also quashed by the Court of Appeal on October 13, 2022, with the judge ordering Kanu’s release.

But in December 2023, the Supreme Court overturned the verdict of the Appeal Court and returned the case to the Federal High Court for continuation of trial.
