Governor Mallam Umar Namadi, alongside nine other northern Nigerian governors, have jetted out to the United State to attend a peace summit.

The event was organized by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), and is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

The summit, titled “Advancing Stability in Northern Nigeria: A Strategic Conversation with Nigeria’s Governors,” was aimed to delve into Nigeria’s potential for peace amidst ongoing tensions and violence, exploring proactive strategies that Nigerian leaders and citizens can adopt to mitigate these challenges.

According to a brief posted on USIP’s website, the discussion will provide a platform for state governors from Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kano, and Plateau to outline their perspectives on the most pressing issues facing their states and the broader region.

The summit will likely look into the ways in which stability in northern Nigeria can foster progress and prosperity for the country as a whole.

The sessions will be moderated by Ambassador Johnnie Carson, Senior Advisor at the Africa Center of the USIP.

The summit is anticipated to yield substantive insights and potential pathways towards achieving enduring peace and security in northern Nigeria, where persistent challenges related to insurgency, communal conflicts, and socioeconomic disparities militate against stability and prosperity in the region.
