I was depressed by the rot I saw at King’s College –Alausa, education minister

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has revealed that he left King’s College, Obalende, Lagos, very depressed as a result of the rot he saw when he visited one of the nation’s foremost Federal Government colleges last week.

The education minister paid an unscheduled visit to King’s College early Wednesday morning and expressed disappointment that the principal was not on ground as at the time he arrived the college early that morning.

In a video that is currently trending online, Dr. Alausa, while addressing students and the few staff on ground, told them that he was not happy with the decaying facilities.

More than 48 hours after his visit to King’s College, the education minister again at a function in Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) recalled what he met on the ground at KC.

His words: “I left Kings College on Wednesday depressed because of the rot I saw on ground. King’s College is one of our nation’s legacies that have been left to decay for a long time.”

In contrast, Alausa praised the YABATECH management for maintaining its facilities, adding, “the last time I visited the college was 40 years ago and the facilities are still in a better form.”

On Thursday, February 13th, the education minister unannounced visited KC early in the morning and he confirmed via the video that the principal was not around during his visit.

He met the college in darkness and expressed disappointment about the situation.

His words: “I have been around since 7.30am, Thursday, February 13th, 2025 and the principal is not around. I am waiting for her.”

Alausa described the students as future leaders of the country, adding, “I came at about 7.30am unscheduled because I wanted to see things the way they are.”

He continued:”I have been around; I went to your classes, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Technical Drawing lab, ICT center. Also, I went to your dining hall and dormitory. I must say the state of facilities I have seen here is not what we want for children like you to used.

“The facilities are dilapidated and I am making a promise now as the minister of education, when I get back to Abuja, I will quickly look into it.”
