Death of Olawuyi by lion very agonising – Gov Adeleke mourns

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has described the death of Olabode Olawuyi as agonising, especially coming from a lion he has been feeding for the past nine years.

Recall that Olawuyi, a veterinary technologist under the employ of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife zoological garden was mauled to death by a 9-year-old male lion Monday.

We also gathered that Olawuyi met his death when he attempted to rescue a female colleague who had been earlier attacked by the same lion.

Governor Adeleke made this known in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed on Thursday.

The governor, in the statement, sympathised with the management and the entire community of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife over the tragic loss of its long-serving veterinary technologist.

“Mr Olawuyi’s sudden passage is agonising, especially coming from a lion he has been feeding for the past nine years.

“I commiserate with the immediate family and everyone touched by the unfortunate incident. The Government and the people of Osun stand with them in this moment of grief and anguish occasioned by Mr Olawuyi’s unfortunate demise.

“I pray to God Almighty to comfort everyone touched by this tragic incident and grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“I also pray for the repose of the soul of Olawuyi while praying to God to fill the void of his death for immediate family and everyone who depended on the deceased while he was alive.”
