Nathan Tella says winning the Bundesliga title in his first season at Bayer Leverkusen “is something special”.

Die Werkself won the Bundesliga title for the first time in their 120 year history on Sunday following a comprehensive 5-0 victory against Werder Bremen.

The Nigeria international stated he is happy to contribute to the team’s success.

“Feeling happy and tired, but ultimately really happy for all fans, players, staff and everyone involved in the club,” Tella told ESPN.

“I think it is probably one of, if not the best day in the history of the club. I’m happy we can all be a part of it. Champions have a nice right to it.”

The 24-year-old only arrived at the BayArena last summer from Sky Bet Championship club, Southampton for a reported €23.3m.

Tella has scored five times in the Bundesliga for Leverkusen this season.

The winger claimed getting the chance to be part of the club’s success is something that will linger his memory for a long time.

“Yeah it’s obviously very special. I’ve always said trophies aren’t guaranteed,” he added.

“The fact that I’ve had an opportunity to come to this club in my first season with an incredibly talented group of players, unbelievable coaching staff, and win something first time of asking is special. It’s an important moment for the history of the club.”
