As Nigeria joins the International Community in celebrating World Radio Day, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has commended the broadcast media organisations for enhancing public awareness on participatory and the need for peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.
He observed that the significant impact being made by Radio and Television stations in bridging the communication gap between the government and the people has remarkably been promoting peace and stability in the nation’s democratic and socio-economic development.
This was contained in a goodwill message to the broadcast media organisations and practitioners in commemoration of the world Radio Day in country signed by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy Abdullahi Idris Zuru.
Governor Idris Commended the media industry for providing ample opportunities for the democratically elected leaders to showcase their achievements and challenges in governance while on the other hand entertain and allow the public to express their satisfaction or otherwise on the performance of the leaders.
The Governor further explained that although he strongly believed in freedom of speech, he advised that the policy of fair hearing must strictly be adhered to According to him, compliance will prevent a possible misuse through mischievous and unsubstantiated allegations against the leaders for politically motivated reasons.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to repositioning the state owned media organisations for enhanced efficiency and productivity, which have already started with the provision of the state of art equipment for the Kebbi Radio and Television stations.
In a related development, Comrade Governor Nasir Idris has congratulated the newly elected leadership of the Correspondent’s Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Kebbi State Chapter.
In a congratulatory message, Governor Idris assured the new leadership and indeed the working journalists in the state of his administration’s support towards ensuring meaningful impact on the society through adequate publicity for the implementation of the administration’s policies and programmes.
