NDIC to Heritage, other closed bank depositors: Come forward, claim your funds

3 hours ago 16

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has called on depositors of Heritage Bank and other closed banks to come forward and claim their funds.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive of NDIC, Bello Hassan, made the appeal during the corporation’s Special Day at the 46th Kaduna International Trade Fair.

Hassan assured that the NDIC has been working tirelessly to reimburse affected depositors, stressing that significant progress has been made in recovering and realizing the assets of the defunct banks.

He urged depositors who have yet to receive their payments to present the necessary documentation to verify their account ownership.

“The NDIC has introduced a transparent and efficient process for depositors to claim their funds. Payments can be processed through our official website, email, or social media platforms,” he said.

According to him, depositors with alternate bank accounts can receive up to N5 million per depositor using their Bank Verification Number (BVN).

However, those without alternate bank accounts are advised to visit the nearest branch of the closed bank with proof of account ownership and valid identification for verification and subsequent payment.

Hassan further assured that the corporation is committed to safeguarding depositors’ interests, adding that those with balances exceeding N5 million will be paid from proceeds of the bank’s liquidated assets once realised.

“The corporation has successfully auctioned some of the defunct bank’s landed properties and other assets. The proceeds will be used to pay depositors whose balances exceed the insured limit of N5 million, with additional payments to follow as further recoveries are made,” he added.

Hassan reaffirmed NDIC’s commitment to financial stability, urging affected depositors to take advantage of the claims process and retrieve their funds without delay.

He also encouraged attendees at the trade fair to visit the NDIC pavilion to obtain more information about deposit insurance and the corporation’s activities.
