1 week ago 32

The Women Interfaith Council (WIC) has trained no fewer than 90 people on peace and conflict management in the Southern part of Kaduna state.

WIC organised the event in partnership with the Justice Development and Peace Caritas of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan (JDPC), with sponsorship from the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development.

The 3-day training was part of the Community Action for Peace and Socio-Economic Development (CAPSED) project being implemented by WIC and JDPC.

General coordinator of WIC, Kaduna state, Mrs Elizabeth Abuk, stated that the objective of the training was to build the capacity of the participants as vanguards for peace in their communities.

Abuk added that the participants comprised traditional and religious leaders, women and youth of both the Christian and Muslim faith from Jema’a and Zangon Kataf Local government areas.

In his presentation, Dr Tersoo Linus, development consultant and programme advisor with WIC, spoke on social cohesion, interfaith and inter-cultural dialogue as well as conflict early warning and early response mechanisms.

Linus noted that the diversity in communities ought to be a source of strength and unity of purpose and not strife.

Also speaking, Hajiya Khadija Gambo, acting executive vice chairman of the Kaduna State Peace Commission, gave insights into the Islamic perspective on peaceful co-existence and sanctity of human life.

“Islam places respect on all human lives, irrespective of belief, race and creed.

“It is possible for Muslims and Christians to co-existence peacefully, each one holding to his own belief without fear of molestation,” she said.
