The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has commended journalists, especially those covering the FCT Administration (FCTA), for focusing more on issues confronting the administration and how to tackle them.

Wike gave the commendation on Saturday at the FCT Minister’s Press Corps retreat with the theme: “Building an Environment that Benefits a Smart City”, held in Keffi, Nasarawa State.

Wike, who was represented by the Director Press, Office of the FCT Minister, Anthony Ogunleye, said, “Your theme for this retreat is very apt because it is emphasising the critical importance of innovation, sustainability and effective city management in our collective pursuit of progress.

“By adopting this theme, you are once again demonstrating your support and partnership in governance, as well as helping the administration, by brainstorming on a major issue in the management of the city.

“I, therefore, commend you for your high sense of purpose and thorough grasp of the developmental issues confronting the FCT.’’

Wike added that the recent steps taken by the FCTA to bolster its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) signified a commitment to self-sufficiency and sustainable growth.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Press Corps, Mallam Hudu Yakubu Ekuga, stressed the crucial role of the media in shaping the narrative and fostering community engagement towards building an environment befitting a smart city.

He said, “As we all know, the media serves as a powerful catalyst for change, influencing public opinion and encouraging collaboration. And in the journey towards building a smart city, the media plays a pivotal role in educating the public about sustainable practices, technological advancements and civic responsibilities.’’
