Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, and Nyesom Wike,
minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), on Wednesday attended the
national caucus meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The meeting was held at the Bauchi governor’s lodge in the
Asokoro district of Abuja, the nation’s capital.

It was the first time Abubakar and Wike would be meeting
publicly after the 2023 presidential primary election of the PDP.

Abubakar and Wike vied for the party’s presidential ticket
in 2022.

The minister was defeated by the former vice-president.

Following Atiku’s victory, a group of five governors known
as the G5 demanded the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu who was then the national
chairman of the party.

But Ayu refused to resign.

Wike and his allies in the G5 — Samuel Ortom (Benue); Okezie
Ikpeazu (Abia); Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Seyi Makinde (Oyo), would later
form a major opposition to Atiku in the 2023 presidential election.

They were believed to have contributed to the defeat of the
PDP in the elections.

Since then, the situation has escalated into a prolonged
crisis within the party.
