We’ve caged criminals, Delta CP tells IGP confab

Delta State Police Command has arrested 20 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists. It also recovered fabricated Beretta pistol pump action along Ibusa-Asaba Expressway. Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, spoke at the Inspector General Police (IGP) Conference in Abuja.

He said: “The criminals are feeling the heat and too hot for them to operate. We arrested some of the suspects during an operation and recovered some dangerous weapons in their hideout. We have interrogated some of suspects, some are charged to court, while other suspects under investigation. Operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS), conducted stop-and-search along Ibusa-Asaba Expressway, arrested two suspects and recovered two rounds of 9.mm live ammunition and two fabricated Beretta pistol.

“Operatives at Agbarho Division arrested two suspected armed robbers and kidnappers involved in various crimes. They also arrested four suspected tricycle thieves, who specialised in robing their passengers of their phones and money in Asaba.

“Police operatives, Bomadi Division, arrested some suspects brandishing weapons in the show of supremacy. The suspect confessed that they bought the weapon for N150,000.

“Police raided hideouts along Asaba-Benin Expressway, Agbor-Benin Expressway and Ughelli-Port Hacourt Expressway. Some suspects were arrested and weapons recovered.

“The enforcement efforts of third-party motor vehicle insurance is about ensuring fairness and protecting responsible road users who follow the law. Driving without insurance is not only illegal but also irresponsible.”
