Tottenham beat Luton to move into Premier League top four

Tottenham Hotspur climbed into the top four after coming from behind to win for the fifth time this season, beating Luton Town 2-1, with Son Heung-min completing the turnaround in the 86th minute.

The Hatters took an early lead through Tahith Chong but could not prevent two-second half goals, as Issa Kabore put the ball into his own net to level the scores before Son’s late winner.

Spurs move above Aston Villa on goals scored, with the two teams sitting level on goal difference.

Spurs’ only change was Timo Werner starting in place of Brennan Johnson, with Micky van de Ven and Richarlison fit enough for the bench after returning from injury.

Luton boss Rob Edwards made two changes as he continues to cope with an extended injury list.

Former Spurs winger Andros Townsend and Luke Berry replaced Jordan Clark and Chiedozie Ogbene.

The Hatters opened the scoring in the third minute via Chong, who dispatched a low shot past Guglielmo Vicario following a lovely pass from Ross Barkley in the area.

Luton have now scored in 18 successive Premier League matches, closing in on the record run for a promoted club, after Newcastle United’s 20-match streak in 1993.

Spurs responded by creating a host of big chances. Werner ran onto a long ball from Dejan Kulusevski and twisted past Kabore but sliced his shot wide of the far post.

Son had an even better opportunity after rounding Thomas Kaminski but the South Korean’s shot hit the near post and then the far post before coming out to Werner, whose effort was blocked by Kabore. Pape Sarr had a third effort but it was cleared off the line.

Ange Postecoglou’s side continued to dominate, having 73.5 per cent of the possession in the first half.

Their constant pressure finally paid off as they equalised in the 50th minute when half-time substitute Johnson fired in a low cross that Kabore turned into his own goal under pressure from Werner.

Spurs were millimetres away from taking the lead as Giovani Lo Celso passed across goal to Johnson, whose shot in the six-yard box was saved and rolled along the goalline before Alfie Doughty hacked it clear.

The winning goal finally came as Werner delivered a low cross and Johnson laid the ball back to Son, whose low shot was deflected past Kaminski.

Luton drop into the relegation zone, below 17th-placed Nottingham Forest on goal difference after Forest earned a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.
