Tinubu Tees Off 2024 IBB Golf Club Captain’s Cup, Commits To Sports Dev’t

President Bola Tinubu has assured of his administration’s commitment to sports development.

Tinubu gave the assurance when he teed-off the 2024 IBB International Golf Country Club Captain’s Cup on Saturday in Abuja.

The President, who was represented by the minister of sports development, Senator John Owan-Enoh, said his administration planned to leverage on the National Sports Industry Policy (NSIP) to promote sports beyond leisure and entertainment, but as business that will not only contribute to the nation’s GDP but also create an opportunity for the nation’s teeming youth to showcase their sporting talents as well as compete favourably with their counterparts globally.

He commended the IBB International Golf Country Club for their consistency in promoting national unity and talent development.

“The President of the federation is a very eminent member of this great club and I’m going to make some remarks to him about the club. What I have seen here today is a classic demonstration of sports and business.

“The thing this government is promoting is full implementation of the National Sports Industry Policy (NSIP) that promote sports beyond leisure, entertainment and sees sports as business that is capable of contributing to our national GDP. We are taking it seriously and in this very event, there is hoisting of national unity, promotion of talent and fitness.

“There is so much focus sports competition, and we need to balance it with mental and physical fitness. We are hoping to enthrone one day to celebrate our sportsmen and women every year to promote physical fitness,” Senator Enoh stated.

The week-long activities designed to celebrate the outgoing Captain of the Club, Dr. Banjo Obaleye, after 12 months in office, kicked started with staff and caddies Kitty on Monday as well as Pros tournament, which took place on Tuesday.

While expressing satisfaction for a hitch-free, the celebrant, Captain Banjo Obaleye, said he will want to be remembered with some of the things people believed he has done well.
