Nigerian Police spokesperson, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi has reacted to a medical virologist recounting how he was handcuffed by policemen and asked to bail himself for having syringes and petri dishes in his bag.

@PoliceNG I was handcuffed yesterday and asked to bail myself cos I was having two syringes and petri dishes in my bag. Is this a crime? My job involves me using syringes everyday. I am also a lecturer and a researcher.. How am I suppose to transport the things I need? They accused me of using it to inject hard drugs.. I have a video.. I don’t even wanna cause chaos by uploading it

Reacting to this, the NPF spokesperson stated that he would have been arraigned if he were not a medical official. Adejobi added that it’s a case of unlawful possession, and possibly impersonation.

He tweeted;

Are you a medical practitioner? We need to know much about you so that we know how to handle this. If you are not, they should have arraigned you, let alone bailing you or demanding bail money at all. I have an interest in the case. We need to know the policemen who even compromised in the first instance. These are used for so many things, and it’s a case of unlawful possession, possibly impersonation, etc. @PoliceNG, @PoliceNG_CRU follow-up pls.”
