A Sudanese army plane crashed in a residential area near Wadi Sayidna military airport in northern Omdurman on Tuesday night, killing 46 people, including a senior military commander, according to the Khartoum state media office.
The crash occurred in Omdurman, the twin city of Sudan’s capital, Khartoum. While the Sudanese army confirmed that both military personnel and civilians were among the dead, it did not initially disclose further details. However, military sources later reported that Major General Bahr Ahmed, a high-ranking commander in Khartoum, was among those killed. Ahmed had previously overseen army operations across the entire capital.
Military sources indicated that the crash was most likely caused by technical issues. In addition to the 46 fatalities, 10 people were injured in the incident.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the aircraft involved or the exact circumstances leading to the crash. Investigations are expected to continue as Sudan’s military deals with the aftermath of the tragedy.
