St. Saviours School holds 2nd edition of ‘Femgineers’ programme

1 week ago 20

St. Saviours School, Ikoyi, Lagos has held the second edition of ‘Femgineers’ programme, aimed at increasing the interest of girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The school launched the programme last year to champion the idea that aptitude in science, technology, engineering and mathematics knows no gender.

The programme, held last week, with sponsors like The Neya Kalu Foundation and The Sun Publishing Limited, had in attendance, 10 participants from the Government Junior College, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Theme, ‘Flights and Forces,’ the organisers said it would address the persistent gender gap, especially in underserved communities, which hinders women’s participation in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

“In today’s tech-driven world, STEM education is more critical than ever,” the organisers emphasised.

The organisers said the programme would “ignite a passion for STEM in young women from public schools, exposing them to STEM subjects and career paths, and equipping them with the skills needed to succeed in the future.”

Beyond career guidance, the organisers said Femgineers was dedicated to fostering creativity, problem-solving and innovation among participants.

“These essential skills are crucial for success in any field, and the programme seeks to empower girls to approach challenges with confidence and ingenuity,” they said.

The training was put together by the Lead Teacher, Mrs. Ofoegbu and the assisting teacher, Mr. Gray. “Femgineers initiative will pave the way for a future, where girls confidently explore the boundless possibilities within STEM, unhindered by societal limitations,” the organisers said.

Founder of The Neya Kalu Foundation, Neya Kalu, in her address, encouraged the participants to have no limits in their dreams and to continue to challenge themselves to do big things.
