A sizeable number of Senate leadership led by Sen Barau Jibrin, Deputy Senate President, Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari, and other top All Progressives Congress, APC, functionaries stormed Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Friday for a multibillion naira empowerment program put together by Mallam Saliu Mustapha, Turakin Ilorin, and senator representing Kwara Central.
As per details of the program tagged Albarika Empowerment 1.0, over 3, 000 people would benefit from gifts of empowering items after successfully undergoing training also sponsored by the senator.
The scope of the project makes the program the single largest empowerment program undertaken by a senator in the North Central of the country, according to analysis.
Explaining the purpose of the project, Nasir AbdulKadir, consultant on the empowerment program, Albarika Empowerment was designed by Sen Mustapha to be different from others before it.
“The Senator was all about helping people in a different way. He sought guidance from God. Warned that politics should not be part of the selection process.
The items to be distributed include over 50 tricycle mini trucks for youths, across Kwara; also, there there will be distributions of new Sienna vehicles to all Local governments in the state; over 20 brand new tractors to be distributed to farmers and local government councils; over 200 cattles, full size, to be distributed butchers across all local governments to stimulate businesses.
Further breakdown of items of empowerment include, 10,000 bags of fertilizers, 20 tractors, brand new Sienna vehicles – 30, 55 Tricycle Trucks, 52 Tricycle, 30 complete Industrial Rice Milling equipment, 25 transformers, 25 garri processing machine, 400 pumping machine, and many more.
With UN dependency ration of Nigeria pegged at 1:70, the empowerment of 30, 000 people should aritmetocally impact over 200, 000 people living in Kwara.
Giving a recap of the process of the project, AbdulKadir said that they had to be painstaking in the selection process.
“The senator also asked that the training to be intensive.
“He was concerned about content and value addition as part of his contribution to local content.
“We also had to train the people shortlisted on Business Model Canvass, BMC.
“Helping them to understand the concept of business entity; the need to separate businesses from person.
“They were all trained and given certification certifications, he said.
Speaking at the event, Sen Mustapha commended the team who helped him set up the program.
But he explained that the program is meant to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
“We also know that our governor, Mal. Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq has been doing a lot to help our people.
“This is just a one of the many phases of empowerment we have planned for Kwarans as part our mandate as given to us by our people,” he said.
Speaking at the occasion, too, Sen Jibrin said that the choice of Sen Mustapha as head of Agriculture committee at the Senate can only be fitting.
“As you can see from the event of today, we made the right choice at the Senate.
“Kwara is lucky to have Sen Mustapha as their representative,” he said.
Other top dignitaries at the event include Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Oyinlola Ashiru (Kwara South), Chief Whip of the Senate, Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Chairman Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other financial institutions, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari and Senator Aminu Iyal Abass.
