Rivers Utd defeat Katsina Utd 2-0 in rescheduled NPFL clash

Rivers United yesterday defeated high flying Katsina United 2-0 in a rescheduled matchday 28 fixture of the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The 2022 champions who are now undefeated in their last 66 home matches in the NPFL since a 1-2 loss to Wikki on March 24, 2019, spanning 1,800 calendar got into the game with purpose and precision from the blast of the whistle.

Their efforts to get the maximum points paid off just before the first half with Deputy Echeta giving Rivers Utd the lead from Andy Okpe’s assist.

At the restart of the second half, the hosts increased the tempo and again got the much needed assurance goal in the 81st minute with Kazie Enyinnaya making it two for his side with another assist for Andy Okpe.

Stanley Eguma decision to stick to the same starting eleven that defeated Rangers International on Sunday in Port Harcourt paid off as the 2022 champions moved to into 12th position on 40 points while the visitors are 7th with 48 points.

Following this victory, Rivers United have now kept a clean sheet in all of their last five home NPFL matches against Katsina United.

Meanwhile, Kwara United have appealed the fine imposed on the club by the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL.

The Harmony Boys were fined N6 million for the disruption of the live broadcast of their matchday 31 fixture against Akwa United last weekend.
