Remo Stars beat Bayelsa Utd to go top of NPFL table

Remo Stars have moved to top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table after defeating Bayelsa United 1-0 in the matchday 22 fixtures yesterday.

The ‘Sky Blue’ took charge of the game from the blast of the whistle creating several chances but were unable to get the goal with the first half ending goalless.

Upon restart of the second half, Olamilekan Adedayo who had been a thorn in the flesh of Bayelsa United combined well with Adams Olamilekan who broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute.

Bayelsa United had prior this game had kept clean sheets in the last three NPFL matches which was their longest clean sheet run since April 2015. They have not kept 4 consecutive clean sheets since March 2008.

Following this win, Remo Stars are now tied on 39 points with Enyimba and Lobi Stars while Bayelsa United are 14th on 27 points.

Meanwhile, 2003 FA Cup winners, Lobi Stars will play hosts to Katsina United just as Bendel Insurance will attempt to return to winning way when they trade tackles with 2017 league winners, Plateau United.

Enugu Rangers will go head-to-head against Niger Tornadoes to maintain its winning run while Sunshine Stars will seek to get the maximum points against one of the league’s poorest side, Heartland FC.

Doma United will square off against Sporting Lagos on Monday. The stakes are high as both teams jostle for mid-table supremacy.

Similarly, the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, has issued a practice directive to clubs reminding them of existing protocols for post-match media engagement by their technical Heads.

The NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi gave the reminder in a memo sent to clubs.

Owumi said strict adherence to the guidelines is imperative in developing and building the NPFL in line with international practices.

The memo also touched on the need for decorum in the conduct of the media and coaches, noting that, “beyond the mandatory participation, is the decorum expected at all times from the coaches and also the journalists.

The memo also admonished clubs to provide professional guidance for their coaches on how to comport themselves during post-match engagements with the media.

“Every club is invited to groom their Coaches in appropriate manners at such media events to avoid situations where the league is brought to disrepute by the unruly behaviour of a coach.

“Rule C9 requires clubs to ensure the proper conduct of their players and officials at all times during matches,” Owumi stated in the memo.
