About four people were reported killed when the police in Kaduna fired shots to disperse a procession by members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), otherwise known as Shiites, to mark the International Quds Day, Daily Trust Saturday has learnt.

Our correspondent also gathered that 20 persons sustained various degrees of injury during the incident.

This is just as the police public relations officer, ASP Mansir Hasan, confirmed that three personnel were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

He also debunked the allegation that they killed members of the IMN, noting that no live ammunition was used to dispense the procession.

The Shi’ites, our correspondent reports, trooped out in a large number on Friday for a peaceful procession in the state metropolis to mark the International Quds Day when the law enforcement operatives moved to stop them.

Daily Trust Saturday reports that the Shiites had assembled near the Katsina roundabout, along the Ahmadu Bello Way prior to the arrival of the police, who attempted to disperse them using teargas, among other things.

This situation caused tension and unease among the citizens, especially those with businesses situated along the Ahmadu Bello Way, as shots were fired by the police to disperse the protesters.

Speaking in an interview after the incident, Malam Aliyu Tirmiziy, one of the leaders of the group, confirmed that four of their members were killed, while 20 others were injured.
