Power outage as Adelabu briefs senate committee on electricity tariff hike
There was power outage on Monday while Adebayo Adelabu,
minister of power, briefed the senate committee on power on the rationale
behind the federal government’s recent hike in electricity tariff.
On April 3, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission
(NERC) approved an increase in electricity tariff for customers under the Band A
classification.
The commission said customers under the classification, who
receive 20 hours of electricity supply daily, will now pay N225 per kilowatt
(kW), starting from April 3 — up from N66.
The development elicited outrage from citizens who asked the
national assembly to pull the plug on the hike.
